The Young Farmer Challenge (YFC) is designed to promote excellence in farming and showcase the involvement of youth in agriculture.
In 2009 the NSW Young Farmer Challenge was held at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, as an initiative of the Youth Group of the Royal Agricultural Society.
The Young Farmer Challenge will showcase the skills, equipment and techniques farmers use everyday through a set of practical field activities. Emphasis is placed on completing each Challenge with the best time but more importantly – with the correct technique and safe work method.
The RAS Youth Group are already working closely with the Agricultural Societies Council of NSW (ASC) Youth Group to encourage NSW local regional Shows to hold their own YFC with the winning Show team travelling to Sydney to compete at the SRES.
With the State grand final held at the SRES the YFC has the added benefit of educating metropolitan audiences in the modern farming techniques and safe working methods of today’s young farmer
